Meet The Makers

Mike Reardon
My first photo experience was as a teen ager with a Yaschicaflex Twin Lens Reflex camera my dad bought in Japan for $25. I was taking slides mostly, 2 ¼ x 2 ¼, using Ektachrome film. In my early 20s I purchased a Minolta SRT 101 which I used for a few years. I was mainly doing B&W.
In my early 20s, I was working as a firefighter and one of the fellows I was working with was an experienced photographer and I worked with him several times in a darkroom. After a few years, I put my photography on hold until 2006.
In 2006, I went to Italy with a point and shoot digital camera. I got hooked again. I really liked the fact that you could see your photo on the back the camera and you did not have to buy film or pay to have it processed. What cool things!
A short time after returning from Europe, I started to buy some new equipment. I started with a Canon Rebel (not sure of the model number). In about 2007 or maybe early 2008, I joined the Fallbrook Camera Club. I found out about the Club through a neighbor. I started attending meetings and my eyes were opened to what really is the wide world of photography.
One of the early Program meetings, I attended, Larry Vogel was the presenter. He was showing us what you could do with Camera RAW images. I was really intrigued with the fact that you could individually adjust colors. At that point, I purchase Photoshop and started taking classes from Vogel.
I continued my journey by upgrading my equipment. Buying several Canon cameras along the way. I am currently using a Canon R5 and R6. Both mirrorless and quite sophisticated.
Along the way, I have taken a lot of ocean related photos, sunsets and surfing, a variety of travel photos, some architecture, etc. For the past few years I have been doing a lot of music concert photos. I have really enjoyed that… both the music and he challenge of capturing singers and musicians doing their art.
My photographic highlight over the past year or so was a trip to Kenya. Quite an amazing experience. We will be going to Africa again, Botswana in 2024.
I have had an opportunity to participate in a number of photo shows and have won a few awards along the way.
I am looking forward to expanding my portfolio in the coming years!
